The Bible is full of potter, pottery and clay imagery. Though we are breakable pots, as believers we hold the valuable treasure of the power of God within us. This is so that the world will know the power we demonstrate comes from God, not us. (2 Cor 4:1-15) No matter how messy and amorphous we may perceive our lives to be, God desires to make us into Christ-like art. (1 Timothy 1:15-17) Christ wants us to live a lifelong journey of sanctification, or the process of becoming holy. Like the work that goes into making a clay pot, this process can be messy and difficult. (Luke 3:1-18) Many wonder about human responsibility in light of God's sovereignty. But the Potter has the right to make some pots for noble or common purposes. (Romans 9:19-23)
