Worship as a mountaintop experience. There is probably no more common analogy for connecting to God's presence, particularly as it relates to Elijah in the mouth of the cave or the disciples at the transfiguration. It is up on the mountaintop where we can hear God's voice amid the noise and thunder of our lives. (1 Kings 19:7-17) Worship of God the Creator and Redeemer is like the high of being at the mountain's summit. (Matthew 17:1-6)
But following Jesus requires spiritual discipline, and will require that we endure both mountaintops and valleys. (Heb 12:1-12) As Christians it is easy to want to stay on the mountaintop but Christ calls us off the peak and into the valley. (Luke 9:28-37)
