As Jesus so eloquently demonstrated, the harvest is a great for evangelism and discipleship. In Matthew 9:35-38, Jesus tells us that the fields of our communities are ripe for the harvest. In John 12:20-26, Jesus used a kernel of wheat as a metaphor for the necessity of sacrifice. Unless we die to ourselves, we are unable to fully live.

Other biblical stories capture the power of harvest, as well. Whether you're just sowing seeds or hopefully harvesting a lifetime of labor, seek peace in living with God's perfect timing. (Ecc 3:1-8) And as John the Baptist taught, the harvest is a period of separation of wheat from chaff, or the good from the useless. An encounter with Christ will initiate a period of sanctification, or the process of becoming holy. This process is not always easy. (Luke 3:1-18)
