Jesus used the simple fishing boat over and over again as a powerful metaphor. The disciples' response to the initial call of Jesus is one of obedience, a move from skepticism to following. This dramatic calling to discipleship required them to leave their entire known world behind. (Luke 5:1-11) After the resurrection, Jesus appears to the disciples while they are fishing, calling them to even greater tasks. (John 21) And in Paul's ministry, developing patience is a spiritual discipline akin to waiting for the catch. (Eph 4:1-3)
