Where there are fireworks, there is celebration. There is no better metaphor for community joy, whether it's a celebration of independence or the joy of a winning team. One could imagine biblical fireworks when Ezra read the book of the law of Moses to the people in Nehemiah 8:1-12, when the people heard God's Word in their own language for the first time.
Fireworks are also an apropos metaphor to describe when Jesus began his public ministry: he stood up in the synagogue, read from the prophet Isaiah a text proclaiming liberation, and announced that the scripture had been fulfilled. In Jesus, we celebrate the age of Jubilee- not once every 50 years, but forever (Luke 4:14-28).
